Going with your Gut!

A lot of times in the past I’ve always had gut feelings about a variation of different things. And believe me when I tell you, pretty much every time, that gut feeling has been correct. Now I don’t know if you want to call it instincts, an intuition or even being psychic, but when you have that GUT feeling, it’s best to go with it. I’m sure there’s some kind of psychology behind it, and I’m pretty sure I’ve heard of an explanation with scientific reasoning as to why it’s actually called your ‘gut’ feeling. That being said I can only explain from my own standpoint what a gut feeling is to me and why I find them very important.

The truth is, in this life EVERYONE and I mean everyone at one point or another will let you down. You may even let yourself down, which can be a lot easier to deal with for a number of reasons. However, the hard facts are people will always disappoint you. I’m not saying they will continuously and consistently disappoint you (some individuals may so watch out for that) but at some point everyone in your life will let you down, some worse than others. It could be your mum being late to your school recital, or your friend cancelling on you last minute. Of course, there are the more extreme and very unfortunate cases when people disappoint you in a very detrimental and hurtful way. And this is where I’m going to bring in the gut feeling.

Now before I get into this, please don’t assume that gut feelings are only negative because I promise they’re not. You can have positive gut feelings for sure! I remember when I had a gut feeling about my mum's third pregnancy, and of course... I was right! You can have a good gut feeling about a holiday. Or maybe you have a good gut feeling about a night out (although that one can sometimes be affected by the slight intoxication). So let’s not forget that gut feelings can be about amazingly great stuff too.

However, I want us to think about the times we’ve had gut feelings which could’ve actually protected us from something that didn’t need to happen or something that we could’ve prevented by simply going with our gut. The truth is sometimes YOU are the best person to trust. That is because you know yourself and in this life no one can know you the way you’re going to know yourself, no one can love you before you love yourself and therefore no one’s going to have your back the way you will.

So if you take one thing from today’s post, just start trusting your gut more and if you already do regularly trust your gut, keep it up because you’re doing amazing sweetie!
